He or she is a driver who is interested in driving, and who is concerned about their
standards of driving. The advanced driver is one who drives safely and with courtesy; one who takes the correct position on the approach to bends, crossroads, roundabouts and other hazards; in fact a driver who would set an example to others. Our members range from late teens to pensioners. They are not old & boring drivers but drivers who drive safely and make good progress when safe to do so. A proven process called the System that is used by the Police driving
schools in the UK achieves this. Four of the key skills of advanced driving are Concentration, Observation, Anticipation and Planning. Also included are, of course, good car handling skills that allow a driver to make smooth progress in a responsible way. The System comprises of 5 basic phases: -
Information (Taking, using & giving to other road users) considered throughout the other phases.
- Position (Where should you position your vehicle on the road).
- Speed (What speed should you be going at for the hazard/conditions).
- Gear (What gear should you have engaged).
- Acceleration (Negotiating / clearing the hazard & making progress).
