Observers Who are Observers and how do you become one? Observers are the people who pass on their advanced driving skill and knowledge to new Associate members (GA’s) to allow them to prepare for the Advanced Driving Test. All their time is given freely. They are volunteers and not paid for their involvement. The Observers are grouped into teams that are governed by the Groups Team Leader who allocates the New Associate Members to
the Observer.
There are several qualifications in Observing laid down by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, which are: - Group Qualified Observer - An individual who has undertaken their Observer training and is working towards their Observer qualification (within 12 months of becoming an Observer).
- Qualified Observer - An individual who has undertaken a written test and an assessment drive with a Senior Observer/Observer Trainer.
- Senior
Observer - An individual who as a Qualified Observer has undertaken another advanced driving test with an IAM Examiner and has demonstrated their skill at explaining advanced driving principles/techniques and demonstrated a high level of driving skill.
Want to give something back! Become an Observer. If you, as an IAM Member believe you have the skills required and have the free time to help then please contact our Observer Co-ordinator or your Observer and ask for you name to be put forward. |
